INVASIVE IDENTIFICATION + GUIDE BOOKS.

It's important to know that each jurisdiction has its own lists of invasive species.

These lists can vary between the Federal Government, the Provincial Government and regional organizations such as EKISC, in fact, there are 16 other regional invasive species councils across the province! You can check them out here!

For the East Kootenays specifically, these are some of our favorite ID resources!

SEEK by iNATURALIST

Seek is a free app that allows citizen scientists to contribute to biodiversity science by submitting their observations. Take a moment to observe and report the plants and animals you see – every report helps scientists track and protect Canada’s biodiversity from unwanted impacts, including invasive species.

REPORT INVASIVES BC

Use the BC Government’s free invasives species reporting app, Report Invasives, to help with your species identification.

Everything reported in this app goes straight into the provincial database which we access to investigate invasive infestations, new invaders and monitor established invasive sites.
